Zaatar

Origanum syriaca

Mediterranean Perennial herb, relative of oregano. This herb has green/grey leaves which smell and taste spicy (a combination of thyme, oregano and sweet marjoram).The dry spice mix sold as Zaatar is actually a combination of herbs & spices trying to replicate this herb. The real thing picked fresh is so much better !! Traditionally used in hommus, dips and soups. Grows to about 40cm in height, and makes an excellent container plant. As with most Mediterranean herbs, it prefers excellent drainage, slightly alkaline soil and full sun.
