Turmeric

Perennial to 1 metre. This sub stropical/tropical plant has a deep orange root used as a culinary colouring agent and cloth dye. It is used to give colour, taste and aroma to food. It is an important ingredient of curry powders. It is also used in stews and curries and in rice to give colour. Grows best in humid areas, with a rich loamy soil. May go dormant through winter and re-shoot again in spring.
