Sorry, but it's too cold for the Szechuan Buttons at the moment. They will be available again in Spring.
Szechuan Buttons
Spilanthes oleracea
An unusual flowering herb with a tangy and tingling after taste that stimulates the appetite and aids digestion. Chewing on a couple of leaves increases the production of saliva in your mouth, while also producing a mildly numbing effect, useful for those with toothache or sore gums.
It is becoming very popular as a garnish for shellfish and can be used to enhance dishes that contain sweet peppers or chilli's.
Dried and powdered it can be sprinkled on fresh strawberries or on the rim of a glass of 'bubbly' for a major taste sensation.
It prefers full sun conditions and with regular and consistant watering, the plant will be covered in small golden flowers with a red centre that are picked before fully open.
It rarely grows higher than 25cm but has a lovely rounded form and does really well as a low border. Works well as a ground cover, or where required to suppress weeds.
