Pigface plants
Carprobrotus rossii
Pigface grows as a ground covering coastal succulent plant. It has quite large purple flowers and edible reddish fruits in summer. The fruit is quite tasty, a bit like a salty fig. Suck out the tiny seed and sweet pulp from the base of the flowering stem. The green leaves can also be used in a salad or steamed lightly.
