Meadow Clary
Salvia pratensis
Meadow Clary is a European perennial herb normally found in grasslands & beside roads. It has flower stems to about 80cm high covered hith purple/blue flowers. Traditionally used in medicine; the dried leaves can be boiled to make a mouthwash to help with sore throats, while green leaves can be applied directly to cuts,ulcers & wounds to prevent infection. A few dried leaves in red wine is said to help releive stomach aches (although a couple of glasses of red wine will normally help most things!)
