Cymbopogon citratus
A species of edible grass from tropical south east Asia that yields a strongly lemon-scented oil. Tender perennial which needs to be over wintered in a warm atmosphere, ie moved from outdoor in-ground position to a large pot in winter and placed in a more protected position. Alternatively, grow it in a large pot year round. See Cultural Information Table for more detailed information. Lemongrass has long been used for tea, medicine and Oriental cooking. The long blades of Lemongrass are used fresh to flavour sauces or soups and to make teas. The lighter coloured, tender base of the stalk is cut off and used in stir fries and other asian dishes.
