Good King Henry (also known as 'Poor Mans' Spinach' & 'Poor Mans' Asparagus')
Chenopodium bonus-henricus
Good King Henry has been grown in European cottage gardens for hundreds of years. It is extremely rich in iron & vitamin C & is a fairly hardy perennial. It won't do much for the first year but after that the new shoots can be picked & cooked just like Asaragus & the leaves just like Spinach. Cut it back in winter & give it some good mulch or compost.
Only available from Spring through to Autumn.
