Elder Flower

Sambucus nigra

This deciduous shrub grows to about 4 metres tall, perfect in a large pot as it can send out suckers. Survives in low light or shady situations and prefers a moist position in the garden. Makes a fantastic, quick growing hedge, which is covered in cream flowers from Spring to Autumn. The flowers have a wonderful sweet smell, and a sweet muscatel grape flavour. Can be used in so many culinary ways - add flowers to salads, drinks, muffins, cakes, corn fritters, jellies.....
