Coriandrum sativum.
Annual herb to 40-50cm tall. Also known as Chinese Parsley, the leaves are flat and similar in appearance to parsley, but have a sharply, unique taste and are mainly used in Asian style cooking. Flowers are white to pinkish mauve to reddish on short clustered stalks. Coriander prefers cooler conditions, full sun to part shade. Prefers sunny position, to partial shade in hot areas. Tends to bolt to seed if not adequately watered in hot temperatures. Suitable for culinary herb gardens or perfumed gardens (flowers are very attractive to bees), the seed and leaf can be used fresh in salads, cooking or medicinally. The leaves are a rich source of Vitamin C. Available during Autumn, winter and spring as it tends to bolt during the warmer months. Easier to grow direct from seeds during warm seasons.
