Allium schoenoprasum
Chives are a close relative of onions, shallots and garlic. They are a perennial plant which forms grass-like clumps 20-30cm tall. They are ideal for growing in a large pot, thriving in rich, free draining but moist soil. Their mild onion flavour blends well with omeletes, fish, or egg salads. New plants can be started by dividing clumps if they become over crowded. Chives are extremely hardy plants that are able to withstand severe winters.
