Salvia hispanica
This grass like plant produces small, greyish seed which taste mildly nutty in flavour. They are said to contain high levels of antioxidants, fibre and protein and produces one of the highest sources of omega 3 in the plant world. The seeds can be sprinkled on cereals, ground into flour to use in baking, or mixed with water or juice.
Easy to grow, it will self seed if allowed. Prefers sunny, well drained soil protected from strong winds and frost. Will grow to approximately 1 metre tall. Has brilliant blue flowers in spring and summer.
