This bush food plant is native to central areas of Australia and thrives on low rainfall.
Small shrub to 30 cm. It suckers and has prickly spines on its branches. Bush tomatoes are harvested when they are ripe (dark brown/red colour) with a raisin-like shrivelled appearance. Green or unripe fruits are toxic. This bushfood is widely used for sauces, and chutneys & relishes or dried and ground into flour for making damper.
