Ocimum basilicum citriodora Lemon Basil (Mrs Burns variety) has an intense lemon flavour and scent. This heirloom variety bolts later than standard lemon basils and grows to approximately 65cm tall. Very quick to reach a useable size, in fact it will outpace any other type of basil I am yet to grow! Makes a deliciously different basil pesto with a very lemony zing! Try the following recipe;

2 bunches of lemon basil

1 cup nuts (cashews, pine nuts or walnuts)

Tsp sugar

Tsp Salt

Enough Olive oil to make a thick paste

Strip leaves off stems, place in a blender with all other ingredients and whizz until combined.

Enjoy on crackers, pizza or stirred through pasta.
